Remember "Things I like." Well, it's moving.
I have a new blog! A review blog. With 6 other great ladies.
Don't worry, Jodifur isn't going anywhere. I'm just going to be posting my opinion on lots of stuff over there. So please visit often.
It's time for Things I like part 3.
And I'm going to do something revolutionary, I'm going to go through and list ALL of my tivo season passes. Now I won't list Doug's or Michael's (yes, we tivo shows for Michael, shut up).
In the past I have mentioned I have terrible taste in television. And I do. And I watch a lot of it. So, read and weep. And feel free to leave in the comments what you think this says about me, besides that I am a TV loving lunatic.
In order-
1. General Hospital-my mom watched this from the first day it was ever on and watched it throughout my whole childhood. It's my 40 minutes to myself, everyday.
2. Grey's Anatomy-who doesn't love this show?
3. Heroes-one of the few shoes Doug and I watch together.
4. Gilmore Girls-I know it went off the air, but I can't bear to delete the season pass. It's like admitting it. I kept the season pass to Sex and the City long after it was gone, and Friends too. I get very attached to my television.
5. Friday Night Lights-best show on television right now. Hands down.
6. 24-the other show Doug and I watch together. Ironically, on opposite Hero's. I didn't like this season that much though.
7. Desperate Housewives-I am the only person left on the planet still watching this. It's not very good, but I'm loyal to my Season Passes. I just "watch" it while I'm doing something else, like blogging.
8. Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List-she is fucking laugh out loud, hysterical. I can't wait for this to start up again.
9. American Idol-I hated this season. This one might be going away.
10. The Showbiz Show with David Spade-soo funny.
11. Best Week Ever-a good thing to watch during Michael's weekend I'm not napping naps. But really, kind of dumb.
12.Brother and Sisters-I got into this late but really like it. I'm excited to catch up on the shows I missed over the summer.
13. The Daily Show-there is nothing to say, he's a G-d.
14. The Colbert Report-see above.
15. Tori and Dean: Inn Love-I'm pitiful, but this is a riot.
16. Traveler-really liked the Pilot, good summer series. I'm hoping I can convince Doug to start watching it with me.
17. Studio 60-Why bother? I started, why not finish.
18. The Starter Wife-loved the book. USA is doing a miniseries.
19. Reunited: Real World Vegas-Ok, stop laughing. No, I mean it.
I dare anyone to open up your heart and soul and tivo and bare all like I just did. I might as well just have put up a naked picture of myself. (OK, maybe not.) In fact, I should start a new meme, what's on your tivo?
So, what am I missing, what should I be watching? Labels: Random TVness
I can't do it anymore. Not blog. (It's amazing how quickly this becomes an addiction). Only talk about Virginia Tech. It's just so sad. I need to step away from CNN and washingtonpost.com.
Remember when I said this was going to be a semi regular feature, but then never talked about it again. Well, it's back, and the next subject is makeup.
I have to admit, I am a huge girley girl. I love makeup, and clothes. I'm not so into shoes and handbags, because that is just a lot of effort to try and match all the time.
I have worn a lot of different makeup, but in the past year, have discovered my favorite, Bare Escentuals. People have very strong feelings about this line, they either love it or hate it, but I absolutely love it. I think it leaves your skin glowing and the it doesn't feel "makeupy" on your face at all. (I'm one of those people who wash their face the minute they get in the door because I can not stand the feeling of makeup).
I've used other expensive makeup for years (Clinique, MAC, Bobbi Brown) and I always had a problem with after about noon I had no makeup on. My skin is combination, but the oily is really oily, and the makeup just slides off. This makeup stays on. The best evidence I have was at an outdoor wedding in 100 degree heat. After 3 hours, I went to the bathroom and my makeup was perfect. My skin is better since I started using it, way less frequent breakouts. It is about the same price as other lines, but it lasts forever, and I buy makeup only about twice a year now, normally because I am sick of the color. The first day I wore it to work I got so many compliments. I can put it on in 5 minutes and it's easy to change from daytime to nighttime. I will say that I still use Smashbox Photofinish primer under my makeup to make it last.
If you are interested in it, I would suggest going to Sephora, have them tell you what color starter box to get, and try it. They will take it back if you don't like it. Then start experimenting with other pieces, like the eye shadows and stuff. Also, the starter box from Sephora has a great moisturizer that I use as my primary moisturizer now. It is not oily at all and also has contributed to less breakouts. The moisturizer I was using before was too thick. Ulta also has a starter box, it's cheaper, but does not come with the moisturizer.
I'm currently wearing the new "camp" set, and it is the perfect "I'm not wearing makeup but I'm wearing makeup look." The other thing I like about Bare Escentuals is that they put lots of sets out, so you don't have to worry about matching colors or making sure things will look okay together. They do that for you!
(I just re-read this and it totally sounds like I am getting a kick-back from Bare Escentuals. I'm not, I promise!)
So, what do you all think, still like this not so regular "feature?"
I'm thinking of starting a new "feature," things I like.
Ever since this post, I'm getting emails asking me for wine recommendations, which I love. So, I thought I'd start off the first ever feature of Jodifur with some wine choices. And then maybe next week I'll do makeup, books, or whatever.
If you hate this idea and think it sucks, tell me. I'm not even sure it will be weekly, it may just be when I feel it.
Let me start by explaining my wine philosophy. Drink what you like, with what you like. I don't eat meat, but I tend to like reds better than whites. So, I drink reds with fish.
Also, never apologize for your palette. Wine is all palette. I hate sweet wine, other people love it. It is what it is.
And lastly, you do no need to spend a lot of money to drink wine well. I rarely buy a bottle that is over $20, and some I love are under $10. It better be a special occasion for me to spend a lot of money on wine.
I hate Chardonnay, so if you are looking for a good Chardonnay recommendation you have come to the wrong place. But here are some other good bets when it comes to wine, all relatively inexpensive.
Savignon Blanc-
Nobilo, or Markham are two of my favorite under $20 picks.
If you are looking to splurge you cannot beat Cakebread. Actually, everything Cakebread does is good, but they are pricey.
Riesling-
As I said, I am not a sweet wine girl. But, I discovered in my wine class DRY Rieslings and they are phenomenal, especially with spicy food, which I love. My favorites are the French Alsatian Rieslings, especially Hugel.
I'm also not a Merlot drinker, but here are some other red recommendations. And I love a good red blend.
My current favorite red wine is Siena, a blend of Sangiovese with Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon. It's more than $20 so I must really like it.
To give a shot out to a local vineyard, (not Md., but VA wines really are good), Veritas makes great red wines, especially the Claret. And Horton Norton is also very good. Both are red blends that stand up to food very well.
I love Pinot Noir. Even before sideways, Pinot was one of my favorite wines because you can pair almost anything with it, and it works. My favorite, which I admit is pricey, is La Crema. For a less special occasion Pinot, and a more everyday wine, try A to Z. You can very rarely go wrong with an Oregon or Washington state Pinot.
So, let me know what you think of my selections, hate them, love them, or think there is something else I should try? Do you like "things I like," or do you think I've becoming completely full of myself to think people would care?
