Cool Rider
Last year we desperately tried to get Michael on a bike. And he said he wanted to, but really, he didn't. Maybe he was scared, maybe it was the low muscle tone, maybe he just didn't want to. Hell, I still don't know how to ride a bike, and I'm a well rounded, perfectly lovely individual (really, I am.)
About a week before his birthday, he started asking for a bike. And I was all, yeah, whatever. And he kept asking, and asking. And then Doug took him to the the toy store to redeem some birthday gift cards the day after his party while I was at a blogger event and they came home with a bike.
And he got on it. And pedaled. And all the progress from this year can be found in these pictures.
He is not screaming, he is not crying, he is not begging to get off. He looks, happy. Like a normal, well adjusted, happy, 5 year old boy.
Now if we could just work on the talking back. Because after the bike riding he got punished for being extremely sassy to me. But my guess is this is also normal 5 year old behavior.

That's great Jodi. Except for the part that now Michelle Pfeiffer singing Cool Rider will be stuck in my head for the remainder of the day.

I am guessing normal behavior!
Arun has just started riding his regular bike, but is still preferring the easier big wheel style.
Yep, I am going to go with "normal" here, Jodi. ;-)

Honestly, this kind of gives me hope, because my 3 year-old has had a tricycle for a solid year now, and she flat-out *refuses* to ride it. She wants abso-freaking-lutely nothing to do with it. (She hates the swings & slide at the playground too. I think it's a fear of motion that she's not totally in control of, but I'm not sure.) So, reading this makes me think that, maybe someday, she'll come around.

Ha, Cool Rider is stuck in my head now too, thanks Corey J!
So happy to hear and see this, Jodi.

I remember the fun times, well mostly fun times, I had when my kiddos started to ride bikes. Take some video if you can, those are great memories.

Five-year-olds are nightmares. Have fun this year.
But, yay for bike riding!

That's awesome! I'm glad he's enjoying it. Thanks for sharing the pictures. I'll think I'll try Ashley on a bike soon, too, we have one in the basement from when my niece was little. Sorry to hear about the sass, but he's 5, a whole hand, remember? I think the sass comes with it.
