A Million Shades of Beige

My not so new house has like a million different paint colors.  And they are all one shade off of beige.  And the previous owner left us no paint.  So periodically, Doug takes a chip off of a wall, and goes to the hardware store, and brings us a small can of paint and we touch up some paint where we moved pictures or put holes in the wall or something.

And we thought the most recent run to the store this past weekend was it.  Because we literally have 10 pints of custom colored beige paint.  But last night I realized that our living room and dinning room are not ACTUALLY the same color.  Because why would they be? They are only next to each other.  And they are both beige.  And how did I realize this?  I used the dining room paint to touch up the living room wall.  And it looked fine at night.  Except this morning, in the sunlight, IT IS TOTALLY A DIFFERENT SHADE OF BEIGE.

So I called Doug at work and told him he had to go back to the hardware store this weekend.  I think at this point he just wants to hire painters and paint the whole stupid house ONE COLOR OF BEIGE.  Which is hysterical.  Because it took me about 6 years to get him to agree to paint our old house.

And THAT is why I refuse to paint. It's too much work! LOL! :)

I have a feeling that the next owners of this house will feel the same way about the eleventy billion different shades of green. Whoops. :p

OMG, I feel your pain. We have four different colors of beige in our house (which we are trying to sell). When we went to touch up paint, we discovered that in the dining room, the wall above the chair rail is a slightly different shade than the wall below the chair rail. We discovered it the same way you did. WHY DID THEY DO THIS?

I hate beige. My apartment is.. slightly off-white (it's not quite yellow-y enough to really be beige, but not paste-colored enough to be truly white) and has a bunch of accent colors.. the living room has 2 red walls, the office has two dark blue walls, and the bedroom has a brown wall.

We painted several rooms this fall, and I made damned sure to use the same color whenever possible.

I know an excellent house painter if you do decide to go ahead and do it.

Had to LOL because I swear didn't Amy (Amalah) have this same problem at one point? I could be mistaken, but I could swear I read a post long ago from her about that too. Maybe it's a DC area thing to paint each room a slightly different shade.

I guess I'm pretty small-town, or cheap, because I used the same green in both the bathroom and underneath Nicky's chair rail. But hey, the nursery gives me a whole new chance to start a new trend. I still need to paint the nursery, living room and our bedroom. Hm, to be more cosmopolitan maybe I'll do each room in a different shade of ecru or something. ;)

Beige could be the single worst interior color ever! And to have multiple shades of beige? Oh my, I feel for you.

My husband and I can't stand bland colors - we're in the process of putting up blue, greens, reds and yellows throughout our semi-new home. It'll be a technicolor dreamwall in every room!

Good luck figuring out your situation!
