More Not Helpful Advice
I think I shall start a column, advice that is not helpful, from Jodifur.
Here is my latest installment. DON'T MOVE. EVER. Don't do it. It's not worth it.
I spent yesterday, and I mean, yesterday, 8 hours, on the phone with utilities. Imagine explaining 30 times that yes, we are moving out on this date, and no, we are not moving in right away, we are moving in 30 days later, but yes, I just want to transfer service and not stop and start service and no you can't do that? Oh, your going to put me on hold? And transfer me?
Am I the only person on the planet who has ever done this? Rent back people, it's not that uncommon.
Verizon hung up on me. 4 times.
I know I really wanted this. I did, and I still do, and I love our new house. But huge giant pain in the ass this is.
And don't even get me started on the TV/cable/phone situation. Doug has to have DirectTV so he can watch the Steelers (Grrr....worst customer service known to man), DirectTV insists they need a phone line to install, we don't really want a phone because who needs a home phone anymore right? And the phone company doesn't do cable and it has to be a land line and not a voice over IP which leave us with.......
3 companies, 1 for phone, 1 for internet, and 1 for TV. To screw up and not show up. 10 bucks says I don't blog for two weeks because I don't have internet. Or phone. Or satellite.
The water company was lovely though. I should be able to shower.
If I die because I was put in the electric chair for murdering babies and kitties, my hell would be your day yesterday. I cannot stand DirecTV's customer service. They are one of those companies that purposefully tries to screw around with you so you give up and give them all your monies.
So, basically, that sucks and I'm sorry for you.

maybe i can ship my steelers loving husband out to your new house to watch the games. (we can't get anything but comcast at our apt. srsly. the only high speed internet through them as well. gah.)

Aaaack. We just went through buying a house recently too--great time to buy, right?--but DAMN is it insane. Plumbers, cable people, appliances, the bank, and then moving without help--it took us over 48 hours, just of moving stuff, one at a time. Because someone had to watch the baby.
Gahhh. Not doing that again.
Good luck with all your stuff--I hope you love your house as much as we love ours.

I moved 7 times in the course of 6 years and dealing with the utility companies was by far the WORST part of it. Moving cities/states is even worse.

I have DirecTV and absolutely no phone line. Tell 'em to suck it and put in your stupid sattelite. They want you to have one so you can order pay-per-view and play spendy games on your TV.
Good luck, though. I freakin' hate moving. I bought my house almost two years ago and I'm not moving unless it burns down. I intend to die in this house. Even if it is in the middle of nowhere and only has one bathroom.

You DO NOT have to have a phone line with DirecTV. We pay an extra $5.00 a month fee because of it. They just want you to order stuff.

I hate moving as well. VERY MUCH. But we might do it soon. 800 square feet and two bedrooms is just not enough for 4 people!

We have had directv for years and no home phone, not even on install. We have to pay extra to order pay per views via cell phone, but whatever!
Be mean to them...then tell them you want something free cuz they suck...

was it you that I was talking to at BlogHer about how I'm never moving again? I'm still not. I'm not sure that I want this house to be my "forever" house, but I do know that I don't want to go through a move ever again. I don't think I'll even be up for helping my kid move out when he grows up.
