What A Difference A Week Makes
I picked Michael up at school yesterday almost a week to the minute that I got the phone call. The one that told me there had been an accident and he was bleeding everywhere and they were calling 911. That phone call.
And he was fine. He was smiling and happy and coloring and screamed "Mommy can I go to the playground?' when I got there. And I said yes.
And he ran and jumped and went down the slide. All the things the doctor said we should let him do. "Let up on him. Stop telling him no because of his hand. Make his life as normal as possible. He is having nightmares because he believes he will never be okay again. Make him believe that he will be okay again."
He had the biggest smile on his face as he ran from slide to swing to jungle gym, just being an almost 4 year old boy. He told me about his friends and how excited he was to see everyone. And his favorite part of the day was "playing." He wasn't scared. He wasn't traumatized. He didn't even mention the cubby. He was the happiest I had seen him in a week.
When we got home there was a huge pack of get well cards from his classmates. And they all said, "I hope you come back to school soon." And Michael said, "but I did Mommy."
And he smiled.
I think we made the right decision.
For the first time in a week I can say this. I think we are all going to be ok.

Circus contest ends at 5 today. You know you want tickets to the circus!

Kids are surprisingly resilient. Much more so than WE are. I am so glad is he is going better. So glad things are going to be okay.

That's awesome! They bounce back way faster than we do. :0)

What a great way to start back to school! I'm so happy that he's put it behind him so well. And you too. It sounds like you feel a lot better. Kids are really so resilient; it's amazing.

So glad that he's healing well. It's harder for the parent to forget. Kids are so resilient.

The best thing we can do for our kids is pick up and move on as though it was no big deal . . . well done!

:-) This will all be a distant memory for you--and probably something Michael won't even remember. He'll be just fine!

Kids are just crazy kinds of resilient. How do we lose that as adults?
I cannot imagine how stressful this all has been for you - hang in there! Yikes.

I'm glad to hear he's doing well :)
Everybody already beat me to it; I was going to hop in and comment on how kids are remarkably good at bouncing back and not letting bad things bring them down.

It can be so hard to let go. To let them fall and pick themselves up. Probably harder on the parents than the kids themselves. Sounds like a good move. You're doing great. Keep up the good work.

Phew, I'm so glad that everything is working itself out. I know the stomach churning sensation you were feeling earlier, but it sounds like sending him back was definitely the right thing. Hopefully it keeps looking up from here.
